St. Patrick’s and St. Joseph’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, and New Orleans is gearing up for its annual celebration. A weekend full of parades followed by the Parasol’s/Tracey’s block party. But in addition to remembering to wear green, there are other things you need to keep in mind this St. Patrick’s Day.

TAKE A CAB – While it’s definitely a day of fun with friends and neighbors, too much green beer can put a dent in your celebrations. NOPD will be out not only for the parade, but watching for drunk drivers. Call a cab—the $20 cab ride is worth not spending the weekend in OPP. United Cab – 522-9771 Nawlins Cab 522-9059

OPP – If the worst happens, OPP Central Lockup is located at 730 South Dupre Street, behind OPP and the criminal courthouse. You can get automated information about someone’s charges and bond amount online at (504) 827-6777. Bear in mind that it often takes several hours for the information to become available, and several more hours for someone to be released after bond is posted.  There are many  bonding companies located around the jail, but a cash bond (if you are able to post it) is the best option—as long as all court appearances are met that amount is usually refundable after any case is resolved.

PARKING AND TRAFFIC – Parking and street traffic are going to be restricted where the parades roll. Plan accordingly, because while spending a few hours watching the parade and catching beads is a lot of fun, you don’t want to be stuck trying to get out of your neighborhood when you made plans to be elsewhere.

PARADES and BLOCK PARTIES – If you keep the above in mind and wear a little green, there’s no reason you shouldn’t enjoy the full weekend!
